Lettering for the book Elo
“Elo” in general means link and it can be associated with emotional and subjective relationships. Here Elo refers to the connection between the life story of Elza Montal and the Suburban Railroad of Bahia (Brazil). The link – Elo – is expressed in this catalog through the photographs taken by Elza and her students at the suburbs of Bahia, during the photography workshops taught by her.
The design of the letters, inspired by the classic railroad pictography, was sewn on parchment paper. In the book the idea of sewing is used as a metaphor to the link – Elo. The parchment paper was very appreciated and used by Frede Abreu, father of Elza, who was responsible for conveying part of this link with the suburb.
